Seven Reasons You Continue To Suffer With Your Thyroid
Problem, Which Just May Be Causing Your Weight Problem
Autoimmunity
Autoimmunity is a condition where your body attacks itself. This
topic is too long to completely explain it here, just know that in the case of thyroid problems, this is
called “Hashimoto’s Disease” and it is becoming more common. If you have an autoimmune thyroid condition, you
don’t have a thyroid problem…you have an immune system problem. (You must treat the immune system if you
expect to lose weight.)
“It’s all in your head”
This is something that is oftentimes told to you. When lab tests
come back normal, but yet your symptoms persist…well then you “must be normal”. Let me say this: nothing
could be further from the truth. The symptoms you experience are real, and you are not going crazy. There’s a
reason why you feel the way you do, and I make a promise to find out why.
Wrong tests ordered
This is a big one. When someone seeks my help, I will oftentimes
order copies of their labwork that was performed by their doctor. Most commonly, I see doctors only ordering
the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), a blood count, and metabolic panel, and then sometimes a lipid panel.
That’s it, nothing else. This is largely incomplete.
What about the other factors that play a HUGE role in your thyroid
problem? Other lab tests that may be needed include:
-
Gut function tests - thyroid hormone is
converted to active hormone in the gut; so gut function testing is vitally
important.
-
Gut microbial tests - microbes in the
gut affect gut function, so we need to know if there are any foreign microbes in your GI
tract.
-
Immune balance tests (remember, the
immune system may be at cause for a thyroid problem)
-
Food sensitivity tests (there is one
food that is almost always a contributing factor to a thyroid problem – do you know what it is? If not,
why not? Why didn’t your doctor ever tell you? You’ll learn the answer during your consultation with
me.)
So, why didn’t your doctor order these other tests? The quick
answer is that he or she doesn’t know about the causative or contributing factors in thyroid issues. If they
don’t understand what contributes to your thyroid problem, how can you expect them to order the proper tests?
(Just think about that one). And…even if your doctor knew about these tests, chances are, insurance doesn’t
pay for them. Insurance companies only make money when they spend less. Don’t expect your insurance company
to pay for these tests, as it’s not in their best interest.
You need to do what in YOUR best interest. And that’s where my
weight loss services come in to play. I’ll do everything in my power to help you – that I
promise!!!
Right tests ordered, wrong
interpretation
Here’s a different spin on the preceding reason. In this case,
your doctor ordered a right test, but had the interpretation wrong. Here’s what I mean by
that.
Let’s take the TSH. Your doctor goes by the lab normal ranges,
which in many labs is 0.5 – 5.5. (By the way, that’s a wide range of normal, and many people fall into that
range. If you fell into that range, then you too were labeled as normal.)
But…that normal range does not tell us if the thyroid gland if
functioning at its optimum. For optimum TSH levels, I go by a different lab range; that being 1.8 – 3.0.
Different lab ranges result in different interpretation, which lead to different plans of action. If you’re

Drugs only mask the problem
Medications don’t really get to the underlying reason of WHY you
have your health problems. And, the most common thyroid medication only treat 10% of thyroid problems. If you
fall into the other 90%, then no amount of “synthetic thyroid” will do the trick.
No dietary changes
Remember earlier when I spoke about foods and their relation to
thyroid problems? Well, you doctor has no clue about these foods. After all, how much glamour is there in
telling you to eliminate ZYZ food from your diet? However there is lots of glamour in giving medications, and
in doing surgery. So don’t expect your doctor to tell you about these foods in the near future…it just won’t
happen.
Taking too many supplements
I’ve seen this happen too many times to mention. Someone goes to
an “alternative” practitioner or a “holistic” healer, and they are given way too many supplements. In fact,
supplements may be the reason why a thyroid condition gets worse. I’ve seen this situation far too many
times, so many in fact is not even funny. Bottom line is, beware of alternative practitioners who advise you
to take a boat-load of vitamins and supplements. Sometimes the body just can’t handle the mere number of
pills. Make sure to go to a practitioner who understands vitamins and supplements and how to handle a
complicate thyroid patient.
